Theses towards a new natural philosophy
In this paper I address some philosophical questions regarding the impact quantum
mechanics has in the classical conceptions about reality and knowledge. I stress that
onto-gnosiological realism still is an option to the issues regarding the relationship
between knowledge and reality. Rejecting some radical aspects of Copenhagen
interpretation of quantum formalism, I emphasize the advantages of de Broglieâs
realistic and causal model. To finish with, I discuss the limits of the Cartesian concept
of matter and the split between matter and mind
Strategies for sustainable development of the UNESCO Creative Cities: conclusions from the XI UCCN Annual Meeting (2017)
In 2017, the XI UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) Annual Meeting took place in Enghien-les-Bains (France), gathering representatives from the 116 Creative Cities and UNESCO. This meeting was an opportunity to present and discuss strategic contributions to several local urban implementations of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda. It was also an opportunity to raise awareness and to evaluate specific creative strategies being undertaken by each city and each creative field groups, as well as struggles, needs and opportunities for improvement. The event was divided in several sessions, such as the Steering Group working session, the Creative Cities workshops, the Mayorsâ Forum or the final Plenary Session. All of them enhanced an updated panorama of the current initiatives, difficulties and opportunities that Creative Cities of UNESCO are facing, allowing to draw some conclusions regarding the effectiveness of the Sustainable Urban Development goalsâ implementation. From a report following the eventâs exclusive personal attendance, and taking into account official documentation by UNESCO, we intend to analyse and discuss some of the main conclusions from the XI UCCN Annual Meeting.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

How to control market power of activity centres? A theoretical model showing the advantages of implementing competition within organizations
One important issue in firmsâ governance is how to create incentives so that activity centres can become more efficient. In this paper, we first introduce an agency contract where the salary of the manager of an activity centre that produces an intermediate product is dependent of its performance. Secondly, we add competition within the organization. This latter point is new in the literature. We then develop a "static analysis" comparing a firm that has only one activity centre producing an intermediate product with another firm that has two activity centres producing the same intermediate product, in a context where the technology manifests increasing returns to scale. We conclude that the introduction of internal competition makes the firm globally more efficient, even though it cannot fully explore the existence of increasing returns to scale.Activity centres, internal market power, firm efficiency
The Imperfect Sides of a Perfect Circle (Morality Towards Love)
Assuming we consider that the film art isnât merely a simple representation or expression, but that promotes a moral understanding, we are considering that the film acts as a contributing means to understanding the philosophical aspect of human beings. It is through films that we have access to stories and characters that lead us to analyze the way we live. Based on this idea, comes this audiovisual essay "The Imperfect Sides of a Perfect Circle", that explores the way that these moral aspects are translated to films, more explicitly how it is done in the film How to Draw a Perfect Circle (2009), from the director Marco Martins
